Mixed Company was formed in Balmorhea, Texas in early 2001 after personnel changes occurred in a previous band named ''Madera Valley Express.'' After a series of permanent and temporary drummers, C. J. Pate joined the band in May of 2008.

Country songs are the mainstay of Mixed Company's performances, but they also play some Spanish music and some Classic Rock. They have been performing in far West Texas, in the area between El Paso and Odessa.
