Larry grew up around country music - influenced by his father, Jack, and his grandmother, Bennie, Larry started learning to play guitar in the mid 70's. His dad showed him some guitar chords and the basics, and during weekend breaks from college his brother Glenn showed him more chords and techniques, but he is mostly a self-taught musician.

Larry plays lead, fill-in and rhythm and has taught himself to play bass guitar as well. He sings lead vocals on many of the songs performed by Mixed Company Band.
